Bee Lawns are designed to create a lawn that supports the conservation of pollinators and natural resources while also allowing for the typical play and recreation that is associated with a conventional turfgrass lawn. Our bee lawn mixtures use slow-growing, deep-rooted fine fescue turfgrass to reduce the need to mow and water the lawn, alongside shorter flowers that can tolerate mowing. The flowers in these mixtures are selected for their ability to attract and feed our at-risk pollinators. Research from the University of Minnesota has shown that bee lawns can support more than 60 unique bee species.
Native plants have a strong evolutionary relationship with the local insects and wildlife within their ecosystem. They are adapted to the local climate, soils, and other environmental stressors that may limit the success of non-native species. Our native plant mixtures are designed to strike the perfect balance between beauty, pollinator value, and cost. All plants are native to the United States, with a specific focus on Minnesota and the Upper Midwest. Plant heights range from 8″ to 60″.
Our wildflower mixtures prioritize aesthetic beauty first and foremost, with conservation value as a secondary consideration. These mixture uses a combination of native and non-native species, and both perennial and annual species.
